Derrick Dawson is an essayist for Stories Connect. He is currently co-program coordinator for Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism, a regional program of Crossroads Antiracism and Training and is serving as a member of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. For more than 10 years, Derrick served as a broadcaster and journalist in the United States Navy Pacific Fleet. Derrick earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and Linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University. Derrick’s essays appear twice monthly and he covers issue areas including sexuality, race and oppression, physical limitations and non-conforming identity.
